There are two main groups of clamping elements for tool clamping: fixed clamping elements and variable clamping elements. The fixed elements are mounted on press tables and runners and therefore requires a higher degree of standardization of the tool.

The variable clamping elements are more flexible but requires manual placement of every specific tool. The standardization of tools is minimal.
